Today is the first day of my photographic pilgrimage. I am tired, having driven from HMB to Winnemucca, which is 415 miles. It was an easy & very beautiful drive. The hills changed from golden green to white as I climbed into the mountains. It has probably been 20 years or longer since I have driven any part of this route, and I had forgotten how pretty the high desert can be in the late Spring. I did some "drive-by" shooting with my baby canon, a bad habit I have picked up from one of my friends. The scenery was too precious to pass by and I did have the camera on a "point & shoot" setting, so all I had to do was hold it up and press the button. Not bad for drive- by photos!
I only stopped a few times, mostly for gas, water and coffee. One town was called "Verdi", which is a tiny shell of a town along Highway 80. There was an old, burned-out building standing in the center of Verdi which was too amazing not to spend some time exploring and taking a few images. Here's my favorite:
My self-portrait in a casino window:
How would you like to live in a town called Puckerbrush? It's no more peculiar than Hayfork I suppose.
After a good night sleep and a free breakfast at the Holiday Inn "buffet", I am off to Idaho tomorrow.
